If you have decided to get Invisalign, you have a lot to look forward to! It is a convenient, discreet, and effective method that could help you achieve your dream smile. However, it will change your routine. How can you make the transition into treatment as smooth as possible? You can prepare ahead of time with these simple tips:
Brush After Each Meal
While most people can protect their oral health by brushing their teeth just twice a day and flossing once a day, it is different for Invisalign patients. In fact, it is recommended that you brush and floss after each meal. Doing so prevents your aligners from trapping food particles against your teeth. If you start brushing and flossing after each meal now, it will be easier to do so once you have begun treatment.
Reduce Snacking
You should wear your aligners for 20 – 22 hours each day. Otherwise, they will not be as effective as desired. Since you have to remove your aligners to eat, it would be best to reduce the frequency of your snacking. In fact, it would be ideal if you could consume all of your daily calories at your three main meals. Make sure to eat enough fiber, protein, and fat; these nutrients can help you stay satiated for hours at a time.
Gather Some Supplies
Some Invisalign supplies, such as your aligners, will be given to you by your orthodontic team. However, you may choose to purchase other things on your own. For example, you could buy a small oral hygiene kit that you can take with you on the go. You might also order some Invisalign cleaning crystals, which are excellent for keeping the aligners clear and fresh.
Understand the Financial Impact
Invisalign usually costs at least a few thousand dollars. Some dental insurance plans cover part of its price, while others offer no coverage at all. Many orthodontists offer low-interest financing that allows patients to pay for treatment in convenient monthly installments. Be sure to ask about your financial options during your initial Invisalign consultation so you can be confident that the treatment will work within your budget.
Getting used to Invisalign can take a bit of time. Adjusting your habits now can make the transition into treatment as easy as possible!
